Machine Room (Chapter 5-3)
Meeting Of Rivals
Go through the corridor into the next room. Collect the SHOTGUN SHELLS on the floor and board the lift. Cross the room until Leon encounters his old training comrade, Jack Krauser, who will greet you with the infamous "Been a long time, comrade".
Although the characters start talking, do not let your guard down for a minute. During the scene, be prepared to press two randomly determined buttons to survive each of Krauser's deathblow knife attacks, or Leon dies.
When Krauser throws Leon to the ground, prepare to tap one button rapidly. When he threatens to press his dagger into Leon's chest, rapidly press the button shown and then switch to the other button when indicated to hold off Krauser's knife.
After surviving the scene, head east, drop off the platform and exit via the northeast door.
The Fortress Ruins (Chapter 5-3)
Conflict of Interest
Drop over the cliff's edge and proceed through the area until the cutscene with Krauser plays. He's pretty pissed that Leon and Ada are "all hooked up" and informs you that in order to get to Ashley you require 3 insignias to open the gate. There's one in the East, one in the West and guess who has the last one? Krauser then starts his attack.
Move quickly to avoid Krauser's gunfire, continue up the stairs, kick open the door and enter the building. The door on the right has a timer lock and will not open until the timer goes off. Krauser soon smashes through the door and enters the building, so move quickly. Collect the HERB and smash the crate for MAGNUM AMMO.
Climb the ladder and fight it out with Krauser on the roof. Shoot him with the TMP to inflict damage, and keep trying to shoot him until he throws a flash bomb and disappears.
Even though the official boss fight against Krauser has not started yet, a solid strategy is required to drive off the crazed commando each time he attacks Leon. As soon as Krauser appears, shoot him with the TMP, a shotgun or a handgun with a really high firing speed.
If all else fails, toss a grenade and back off. Krauser initiates each confrontation by trying to fire back. If he is prevented from shooting enough times, he begins sliding from side to side so fast he cannot be targeted. When he starts this, raise the knife and cut him when he moves right up to Leon. Be quick to press 2 randomly determined buttons to avoid his attacks and be prepared to top up your health frequently! Eventually Krauser should throw a flash bomb and disappear.
When Krauser is driven off the first time, the timer lock on the gate soon opens. Kick through the door and walk north cautiously. Krauser hides behind one of the broken walls in the passage. By walking slowly through the area, you can spot him in time to shoot him.
Collect the SHOTGUN SHELLS on the left side of the walkway and continue down the stairs. Examine the door to the north to see where the three pieces of the Holy Beast need to go.
Collect the HANDGUN AMMO on the left and and head south past the stairs.
Krauser is on the building at the other end of the central bridge (see pic). Take cover behind one of the pillars to the left and use the sniper rifle to hit him. Continue sniping him after he jumps down and tries to run your direction.
Jump inside the building. Collect the SHOTGUN SHELLS and smash the barrel for a FIRST AID SPRAY. Climb up to the roof and collect some TMP AMMO. Krauser will usually follow you up, so continue your strategy to fight him off. Shooting off his beret doesn't gain you any special prize but sure is hella fun! I recommend doing this for pure entertainment (see pic)! Drop down the side of the building and head east.
Collect the GREEN HERB in the passage and ascend the stairs to obtain the PIECE OF THE HOLY BEAST, PANTHER.
Krauser appears and another cutscene plays where you hear about his plans for bringing order and balance to this insane world! Then prepare for a showdown against Krauser. Press the dodge buttons to avoid a grenade he throws. Krauser will then jump from the roof to attack you, drive him off in the usual manner.
He will then go back up to the roof and an extra cutscene will play if you press A and respond to his "Come out and fight like a man" comment. Afterwards Krauser will be in your face again, so continue fighting him until he throws his flash grenade and disappears. Collect the RED HERB and HANDGUN AMMO in the area.
To raise the gate barring the exit, push the statue out beyond the corner. Then push it South and work it onto the pressure pad. Pull the lever near the gate to raise it. This is a continue point, in case you die or want to retry after this.
Move around the north side of the building, and you'll spot Krauser's shadow on the ground (see pic). Toss a grenade to drive him out, then fight him in the usual way until he throws his flash grenade. Throw the lever next to the gate to open the lower area, and drop down.
Krauser has installed nasty little robots in the lower area. Once they spot Leon, they dash forward and start beeping. When the beeping stops, they explode. There are also floating machineguns in the area. One shot to the camera mounted on top either type of device causes it to malfunction and explode. One shot to the exposed body detonates it instantly. Use a handgun to get through this area.
Shoot the two robot bombs south of the landing point. Collect the GREEN HERB and TMP AMMO across from the ladder and head south. At the corner, shoot the camera bomb burrowed in the ground. Then wait for a machinegun robot to float in from the right, and shoot its camera.
Head to the southeast corner, look north and shoot the two camera bombs in the passage. Proceed into the open. When Krauser addresses Leon, press A to respond and watch another extra cutscene between the two.
Two robots come after Leon following the event.
Enter the circular tower and collect the YELLOW HERB. Ascend the stairs and climb the ladder. Head east across the roof and collect the MAGNUM AMMO and GREEN HERB. Then return to the west side of the platform and collect the PIECE OF THE HOLY BEAST, EAGLE. Just one puzzle piece remains and you must get it from Krauser himself!
Another cutscene plays where Krauser will mutate and tell Leon to prepare for his death.
At the start of the fight, press the dodge buttons to leap over the side of the platform to avoid Krauser's initial attack. Tap A rapidly to climb back onto the platform. Avoid getting knocked over the side again by staying away from Krauser and staying away from the edges.
Not even a rocket launcher missile will kill this guy, though it damages him severely. Because Krauser has planted timer bombs outside the tower you currently stand upon, there is a time limit in which the madman must be defeated. Therefore, use a magnum handgun (you did remember to save some ammo for it didn't you?).
As Krauser approaches, shoot him in the knees. When he drops to the ground and his head is exposed, shoot him in the head. When he gets too close for comfort, relocate and repeat this strategy of attack.
If Krauser manages to get close enough to attack, press the dodge buttons to escape his blows. Raise the knife and slash him to defend yourself. Keep shooting him in the knee, then in the head, until he perishes.
When Krauser chokes his last traitorous breath, search his body for the PIECE OF THE HOLY BEAST, SERPENT. Drop down through the ladder hole to the level below. Exit through the doorway at the base of the doorway at the base of the ladder. Hurry, because you could still be caught inside the building when the bombs go off. Insert the 3 insignias into the gate and the wall slides across revealing the exit! Don't go just yet - the big explosion is worth hanging around for!
