Guide Books

Here you'll find some of the guide books that have been released around the world featuring Chris in the Resident Evil games.

Biohazard
Title: Biohazard
Published: 1996
Publisher: V Jump
Language: Japanese
Pages: 152 pages

A nifty guidebook to the first game on the Playstation. It's laid out in a kind of comic book-type format, with lots of pictures and kanji strewn everywhere. It covers in great detail things such as in-game items, combat and enemies. There's also a walkthrough with lots of maps and pictures, and a character guide as well. At random sections throughout the book it also include excerpts from the "Raccoon Times" detailing information about the Spencer Mansion incident. Lastly, the back of the book also has a sealed section revealing the game's secrets, such as unlockable weapons and costumes, and the status of the game's characters. With loads of art, screenshots and information this book is definitely a worthy resource for the first game.

Biohazard Perfect Capture Manual
Title: Biohazard Perfect Capture Manual
Published: 1996
Publisher: Kodansha
Language: Japanese
Pages: 97 pages

Another guidebook for the first game on the Playstation. As the title indicates, this book is pretty much just a walkthrough guide, giving seperate walkthroughs for both Chris and Jill's games. It also features some character info and monster data, some of which I hadn't read before seeing this book. It briefly touches on the game extras, such as the rocket launcher and extra costumes, and also features some rare artwork you might not find elsewhere. But generally this book is just a fairly detailed walkthrough.

Biohazard Director's Cut
Title: Biohazard Director's Cut
Published: 1997
Publisher: V Jump
Language: Japanese
Pages: 105 pages

There's nothing to really distinguish this guide from any of the others other than the fact it focuses solely on the Director's Cut version of Biohazard. It features quick character and game introductions before detailing how to complete the game section by section. It's thorough and comprehensive, and comes with a few pull out posters featuring maps from the game, but otherwise doesn't offer anything unique or new.

Biohazard Code: Veronica Perfect Edition
Title: Biohazard Code: Veronica Perfect Edition
Published: 2001
Publisher: Famitsu
Language: Japanese
Pages: 303 pages

An enormous guide covering everything from Code Veronica on the Playstation 2 and Dreamcast. Features detailed character info, as well as information about the game system, weapons and items, enemies, a full walkthrough for both the normal game and battle game (as well as story information), maps and even a rundown of the preceeding games. Also features a ton of extra info, like hidden extras and trivia, timelines, special features, changes in the different game versions, and best of all (for me), a ton of concept art. It doesn't get much more complete than this guide right here.

Biohazard Perfect Capture Guide
Title: Biohazard Perfect Capture Guide
Published: 2002
Publisher: Futabasha
Language: Japanese
Pages: 223 pages

This guide contains essentially everything you could ever want to know about Remake and then some. It contains character information, Gamecube info, full details on weapons and items, enemies, survival strategies, maps, full walkthrough, unlockable extras, related information, files and more, all accompanied by hundreds of screenshots. The only thing this book really lacks is extras like concept art and renders. If you can read Japanese this book is a treat, you really won't find any better information elsewhere.

Biohazard 2 Perfect Capture Guide
Title: Biohazard 2 Perfect Capture Guide
Published: 2003
Publisher: Futabasha
Language: Japanese
Pages: 271 pages

Chris features briefly in this guidebook to Resident Evil 2. Covering the same stuff as the Remake guide, Chris features in the EX Battle section of this book. It includes some basic info, weapons he can carry and also a small guide on how to complete the game. Other than this he also briefly features in some S.T.A.R.S. information throughout the book, and his diary is also featured in the files section.

Biohazard Code: Veronica Perfect Capture Guide
Title: Biohazard Code: Veronica Perfect Capture Guide
Published: 2003
Publisher: Futabasha
Language: Japanese
Pages: 175 pages

Another in the series of Perfect Capture Guides, this time for Code Veronica. Features all of the usual stuff this series has come to epitomise; super detailed walkthrough, info on enemies, characters, items, weapons, files, unlockable extras and lots more. All accompanied by 100s of screenshots. Does what the title says; it's pretty much a perfect guide, again it only lacks in the concept art/renders department.

Biohazard Deadly Silence Official Complete Guide
Title: Biohazard Deadly Silence Official Complete Guide
Published: 2006
Publisher: Capcom Official Books
Language: Japanese
Pages: 175 pages

Pretty much your regular Japanese guide book, this time for Deadly Silence. Features the usual game information, maps, detailed walkthrough of what to do and where (all supported by screen caps), and detailed enemy information including such interesting snippits as HP and how many shots they take to kill. There's also weapon data, which details the strength/range of the weapons you can find, as well as item data and fully transcribed files. Plus there's info on the extras, such as wireless play and Master of Knifing. A nicely detailed book, but lacking any real extras from the game itself.
